Fun Class: U for Umbrella

It has been a long time since the last lesson for fun class. Chloe is not so enthusiastic about her fun classes now probably due to she has many other activities to do. When she's not on her fun class, she would be doing the exercises books I bought for her, in Chinese or English.

We started the lesson after singing Greeting Song.

We had a quick revision on the words and pictures that she learned in her first lesson on U, for which I showed her the pictures of objects spelled after letter U, and she would tell me the name of the objects. You may refer to the previous lesson for the pictures. If you would like to download all the pictures spelled after A - Z, click here.

We then listened to the phonics sound and song of letter U, which went like this:
Up and Under u, u, u.....
u is the sound of U!

She then traced the upper and lower case of letter U on the worksheets I printed from Starfall.com.

She wrote letter U in the boxes and matched the pictures to the words:

I forgotten to prompt her to spell "Umbrella", you may want to do it to enforce her phonics on the letters. For prompting skill, click here.

The craft work for this lesson is to paste the baking cup on the drawing paper as umbrella. You'll need about 2 baking cups, cut into half, a drawing paper, crayon and water colour.

Colour the drawing paper using a blue crayon (or any colour the kid likes) by rubbing it flat on the paper. Paste the half baking cups on the paper. Draw the "handle" of the umbrella. Finger print on the paper using water colour as rain drops.
Busy......

She's so happy that mummy let her dirty her finger...... She can only do this in her fun classes :)

Paste the cotton wool as cloud (optional):

We were busy washing our hands after the finger prints, and forgotten to sing the closing song :(

Chloe's N1 Activities Booklets

Chloe brought 7 booklets back home from the school last week. The booklets are the activities worksheets Chloe had done in the school. The booklets show that the school has different theme for each month, the kids are learning new words and doing craft according to the theme.

I appreciate the efforts put in by the teachers in binding the worksheets for the kids to bring home. From there, I can understand better what my kid is doing and learning in the school.

Watching Leapfrog DVD - Letter Factory, learning phonics

The following is a video of my 20 months son watching the Leapfrog "Letter Factory" DVD. He can read all the alphabets and say their name and sound. This is a very good DVD that I recommend to all mummies.

Fun Class: U for Up and Under

Chloe was sick again, but she was excited when I mentioned about fun class. I think one of the reasons she likes my fun classes so much is because she gets to do the craft and brush painting which is her favourite colouring material.

She was rather tired when her fever shot up to 38.5 degree, but getting more energetic after having her fever medicine and hearing about fun class.

While I was digging the materials for her fun class, she was talking non-stop giving me instruction on where to put the papers, materials and etc......

She sang the greeting song to start the lesson.

She told me to leave the letter U paper on her table, and she traced the letter without waiting for my instruction.

We then listened to the phonics sound and song of letter U, which went like this:
Up and Under u, u, u.....
u is the sound of U!

She took out the pictures of objects spelled after letter U from an envelop, she would tell me the name of the objects before pasting them on the letter U paper.

She label the pictures. With her phonics, she can now guess most of the words right.

The completed picture:

I prompted her to spell "Up" and "Under", the "Up" was still acceptable but the "Under" was horrible. Anyway a good try.

The craft for this lesson was to do up an under water drawing. I mortified it a bit to suit her interest of brush painting. She brush painted the background, pasted  the cut out of fish and jellyfish, and touch up the arms of the jellyfish and seaweeds.

We ended the lesson after watching the video of "Skidamarink".

The lesson plan:
1) Greeting Song, click here
2) Introduce letter U, kid traces capital and small letter U
